Elys Argard was a knight of the Auld Empire, and a major figure in the valiant--but failed--defense of the lands of Obrith from the Kurnish Horde during the End in Fire. She served a number of kings, including Orendil, and even fought in the Battle of Sundered Hill.
It is commonly recognized that her actions during the End in Fire allowed thousands to survive the Kurnish onslaught, preserving the threads of civilization and faith from the chaos and evil of the invading army. For this, and her miraculous exploits in those battles, she was canonized as Saint Elys, and remains one of a very small number of elven saints in the Church of the One God.
Canonization
Her first miracle was the defense of The Sorrowgate--armed only with her faith and her trusted blade, she held off a Kurnish assault for hours while thousands evacuated Menendras; it was said she was aglow with the radiance of God, and their weapons could do her no harm.
Though she died that day, the blade was recovered, untainted by Kurnish touch; it found its way into the hands of Dolph Baron, who wielded it in the Battle of Chedon against a demonic onslaught--though ungifted by any form of magic, the blade shone in his hands, with the same radiance it had before, and cleft through demon-flesh like rays of sunlight through darkness. And so was her legacy sealed. And that very blade is interred within the cathedral to this day, shining its light upon all, that they may live in peace, free from the darkness.
